Valspar Paint Review vs Sherwin-Williams Paint Review
Hello there and welcome to my review of the trendiest, most well-known paints for the modern millennials. That is right, these paints, Valspar Paint review and Sherwin-Williams Paint are known for being high-end. They are to paints, what Apple is to electronics…or, are they?
Well, that is what we are here to find out. I am going to be guiding you through the whole thing to make sure that you know what they are and what the buzz is all about.
I will be talking about both paints from an unbiased perspective seeing as I prefer something completely different from them. I love chalk paint but that is beside the point. It tells you that I will not lean on one side with this review.
1. Valspar Paint Review
The paint has been lauded for having some characteristics that are good and some people have complained about the quality that they have. That is the reason why you will find it easy to get what you need because you will know what to expect.
And, there is a difference between some of the paints even though they will all be Valspar. So, here are some of the things that I have seen and heard about the paint. They are all from people who have used the paint.
It is a Leading Brand
When you hear leading brand, you will know for sure that there is something people have seen in the paint that is good enough to be buying so much of it. This is something that has been grown as a result of reputation and that is why you will find it easy to trust the paint.
Its most widely sold line of Signature paints is one of the most well-known in North America and you will find out why when you buy the can and try it out.
Maintains Good Appearance
Now, after nine years of being tested, it has been seen that this paint has the ability to weather the worst of the exterior. That is the reason why you will find that most people prefer to buy this one because if how it works.
After seeing the way that it resists the change that comes with weathering, it is no wonder that it is scoring highly in consumer reports and that is the reason why you will need to make sure that you have checked it out to see what you will get from it.
It Doesn’t Resist Dirt That Well
As much as the paint is top rated and it has the best kind of resistance that you would expect from mildew, cracking and color change, it doesn’t do so well with dirt. That is not something that I would worry about if I were you though.
You will find out that the paint has less than 50 grams per liter of VOCs and that is something good for the environment. This is a voluntary kind of option that not so many companies take but, Valspar does do something good for the environment.
This looks good to those of us that care about the environment and the pollution that occurs when we pollute it. It is a low toxic paint but it is not FDA approved for food contact so, keep it out of your mouth.
You will find that there are many users who complain about how this one works when you are using it at high temperatures and that is something that will affect its score. They say that in high temperatures, it will tend to drip and start tacking fast.
That is the reason why you will need to use it in cool periods of the day or seasons of the year to have the best time with the painting.
2. Sherwin-Williams Paint Review
Being one of the big names, you will find that Sherwin-Williams ranks high on this list and that is what we are going to look at. There are so many things that are cited as evidence for its ability and that is what we have here.
Worth The Price?
With the paint costing about $ a gallon, you will find that the price is a bit on the high end. That is the reason why a lot of people who haven’t had a good experience will cite this as an excuse. But, the ones that had skills or a pro do the job for them are not complaining.
That is the reason why you will need to have a pro or be one yourself to do this well enough. Most of the people agree that it is worth the cost.
Resistance to Elements
When you look at the resistance levels that this one has, you will find that they are not that high and that is something that a lot of people will cite. But it is not low either, it has 6-9 years of resistance before you start seeing any changes. I would say that is worth 80 bucks.
The mildew and dirt resistance is not as high as the one that other brands like Behr have. However, it will withstand cracking and color change well enough.
You Won’t Need More Than One Coat…
In most cases no, but if you are working with something like old wood, it will soak up the paint and need a second coat. And if you want to have something that will last, you will need to make sure that you have done two coats to get this done.
But, most of the time, you will find that the paint has no problems covering some surfaces with just one coat which is honestly rare in most of the cases that I have seen.
There is nothing that is as good as a warranty that holds up the end of the bargain and that is something that they do here at Sherwin-Williams. There is a lifetime warranty as long as you own your home, to cover any cracking and peeling.
That is something that most of us will be happy about. I mean, for as long as I live, my house can always look good. Some of the times, you will even forget that there is such a warranty because the Duration label of Sherwin-Williams is persistent.
Largest Paint Producer
We got to be honest, it is the biggest paints producer in the US for a reason. A lot of people love the brand and for good reason. You will find that there is nothing better than their Duration brand for the exterior. It holds up and that is something that you will need when you are buying paint.
They offer primers with this, faux finishes and all sorts of interior wallpaper. People trust this brand as much as they do Valspar. There is some brand loyalty that is apparent here and you will see it when you are done using this one and seeing how it works.
Valspar or Sherwin-Williams? Are the High-End, Overpriced Paints Really Worth It?
That is something that a lot of people would like to know. What are the differences between paint that costs $$$ per gallon and one that costs $ per gallon? There is something there that is simply driving many of you crazy.
Do I choose midnight black or inkwell black? Paperwhite or Whisper white?
Well, you will not have to worry that much about which is which when I am here to tell you exactly what you need to hear. This is a way to tell the difference and that is why we are looking at the difference between the two.
Exterior paint is usually judged using the effect that it has on the aesthetic side, which basically means what you can see. Now, the tests dot happen overnight, no. They are done over a long period of time, sometimes years to see how they age.
That is how you will know. So, when you get a report that is reliable like fro consumer reports, you will need to know that they have used a methodology that is as reliable as they are.
Here is How They Judge?
Well, before we start talking about what each painting is like and such things, we need to know how they judge paints. That is how you will be able to get the best kind of result. This is the segment where we get into the process itself to see.
1. The Painter’s User Experience
In this part, you will need to keep in mind that I am not talking about the DIY average painter, I am talking about the pros. They are the ones who have done this long enough to feel the difference. You as a DIY man will not know if the paint is leveling well or not.
They usually look for paint that they can use very fast because we always want painters to get in, get it done and get out. So, they will look for something that doesn’t drag but flows. Paint that drags will slow the work down and probably won’t level well
2. What Is The Effect When Using a Brush and Rollers?
Pro painters will prefer paint that will be working well with both the roller and the brush. This is because the evenness has to be the same whatever you use. There are higher places that will need the roller and if the brush was used and the effect is not the same, it will spoil the work.
Of course, there is no way that there is a paint that will look the same but, there should be a paint that does not show that much. The effect produced when the roller is used and then the brush is not pretty especially with bad paint.
3. Does The Paint Dry Slowly Or Quickly?
This is something that is really important in the process. How long before the paint starts to tack up and cannot be touched again? That will be very important in the process and will be factored into the whole thing on a very crucial level.
Of course, this is affected by humidity, wind, heat and other things but the paint should not be that quick to dry up. There are touches that will need to be added to make sure that it is a perfect job. Leaving it to cure overnight will be possible if it dries at a healthy rate.
The Acquisition of Valspar by Sherwin-Williams
So, as much as we are comparing paints, sometime in June 2017, Valspar was acquired by Sherwin-Williams. So, I don’t know if comparing the same paints by the same company will yield anything different.
But assuming they keep the formula for the Valspar paints and make two different paints, what would the difference be? Well, we are going to find out what it is.
Now, when the two giants combined, they formed a world-class brand of paint that will grow exponentially. It will set the pace for all other paints on its level. That is the reason why you will find that with this new Sherwin-Williams, you will get the best of both worlds.
The good thing is that they continued to make Valspar paints under the same name so, we can actually compare.
My Final Take on the Valspar vs Sherwin-Williams Contest
Well, you have seen what happens when there is ranking to be done. There is so much that has to be taken into account and you will find that there is a good reason for that. Valspar has had so much brand loyalty that even when Sherwin-Williams acquired them, they retained the name.
That is something that you will find to be a factor that influences a lot of people to talk about the Valspar brand as one of the best.
You will find out in several forums that there are some minutiae details that are factored into these paints. Find out what they are.
